Nate, thanks for putting these up. I still can't believe how awesome that Batwoman sketch was.

It's become a tradition for me to get sketches at any convention I go to, and this year's Motor City Con was no exception. In fact, I think this year I made out like a bandit with a record 12 sketches (one of which is being sent in the mail because the artist couldn't finish it before the con ended). So here they be:

Superman and the Ben Reilly Spider-Man, by Art Baltazar:

Classic Batman vs. Millerbat and Balebat,by Baltazar:

Gene Kelly and Cyd Charisse as Batman and Catwoman, by Mark Bloodworth:

He-Man and Teela, by Laura Cascos:

George Pal Martians vs. Jeff Wayne Martians, by Paul Sizer:

Poison Ivy, by Sean Forney (based on a publicity photo of Eva Longoria):

The Shadow, by Michael Peters:

Zorro vs. Marvel's Blue Blade, by the Minor brothers:

Skeletor vs. Fletcher Hanks' Phantomah, by the Minor brothers:

Superman, by the incomparable Terry Huddleston:

Superman wearing the Infinity Gauntlet, by Comfort Love-Withers (this was a sketch my brother wanted):

And it wouldn't be a comic book convention for me without a sketch of Sandy from Grease, again by Love-Withers:

The sketch I'm waiting on right now is a Shadow/Green Hornet team-up by Nate Pride. It'll probably be my last Shadow sketch for a while, as I'm burning out on him. Ditto for Batman; I think it's time to let some other characters have their moment in the sun. Superman, Sandy, and He-Man, however, will remain mainstays of my collection. I would have liked to have gotten Billy Tucci to have done a sketch of the Pillsbury Doughboy as Green Lantern (since they share the same creator, Martin Nodell), but he was booked solid and couldn't squeeze it in. Oh, well.

At any rate, I think I made out pretty well. I'm kind of torn between which pieces I like best: Love-Withers' Sandy, Huddleston's Superman, or Bloodworth's Batgene and Catcyd. I think all three artists brought their A-games to those beauties.

EDIT: By the way, if anyone wants to try coloring these sketches, let me know and I'll scan them into the computer. Most of these are digital pictures rather than scans. so they're not exactly color-friendly at the moment.

Awesome sketches! I was also at Motor City, but just for Saturday. I made out with 14 sketches, though four were pre-done by Art Baltazar, and I got another three done by him.

Green Goblin by Art Baltazar

Black-Costumed Spider-Man by Art Baltazar

New Captain America by Art Baltazar

Wonder Woman by Art Baltazar

Wolverine by Art Baltazar (on a Secret Invasion cover)

Buffy by Georges Jeanty

Stargirl by Christopher Jones

Wonder Woman by Billy Tucci

Liz Sherman by Guy Davis

Stargirl by Katie Cook

My sister's big into anime, so we've started going to the Youmacon in my area as well. I'd post the sketches I got there last year, but at least one of them might be inappropriate for this forum (Stardust the Super-Wizard saying the S-word as Superman literally shatters him like a vase; Skeletor, Lex Luthor, and Ming the Merciless as Monty Python's Spanish Inquisition). The anime cons are a little tricky to work with because while the anime/manga style works for some characters, it's totally inappropriate for others (Sandy done in that style would be a disaster). So it's basically a case of trying to pick which characters can possibly work in that style and going from there.

Really nice sketches guys. I love looking at what people got at various conventions.

Well, in that case, here's an assortment of sketches I got at previous cons.

Sandy vs. Aayla Secura, by Andy Price (autographed by Grease supporting player Eddie Deezen):

Sandy, again by Price:

Catwoman, by Price:

He-Man vs. Skeletor, by Terry Huddleston:

Disco Yoda, by Nate Pride:

The Shadow, by Pride:

Superman vs. Stardust the Super-Wizard, by Charlie "Spike" Trotman (WARNING -- contains mild adult language):

He-Man vs. Acroyear, by Trotman:

Batman and Catwoman, by Amy Nagi:

Batman, by Anthony Poehlman:

Skeletor, Lex Luthor, and Ming the Merciless as the Spanish Inquisition, by Dirk Tiede:

James T. Kirk, by Teide:

Green Lantern, by an unidentified Youmacon artist:

Gene Kelly as Batman, by Mark Bloodworth:

Tyrone Power as Superman, by Bloodworth:

The Shadow, by Jeremy Bastian:

Superman, by another unknown Youmacon artist:

That's about it for me right now. This fall, who knows?

For you guys who are posting and don't already have one, I highly suggest you head on over to and start up a gallery! It's the internet's best community for collectors, and there's all sorts of good stuff over there!

Here's a link to my gallery:

Huh, Richard Zajac was in Chicago? I thought he only went to Canadian cons (he lives here in town).

Those are some awesome sketches, DABEARS! Yours too, TeeMinus! I can't believe some of the big names you've gotten!

Oh, and while I'm at it, here's my Comicartfans gallery :)

My Marvel art is not in my gallery; it's linked at the website at the bottom of the page, though.
