They need to give the bow ties and crew cut a rest. He had them because it was the 1950s and he was killed off before DC modernised their line as a whole.

Actually, Barry hadn't worn a bowtie or crewcut during much of the late 70's and Mid 80's. For some reason, this is how many modern artists like to draw him. I agree, no bowties for Barry unless he's wearing a tux in a wedding or some where it's appropriate. The crewcut could easily evolve into some other modern hair cut that's short and similar.
