Thumbs up Tim Burton adds to cast for Wonderland

Cool update from Dark Horizons:

Christopher Lee, Alan Rickman and Eleanor Tomlinson have joined the cast of Tim Burton's new take of "Alice in Wonderland" reports Digital Spy and This Is Hull & East Riding.

Lee's role is undisclosed, though Rickman will play the hookah-smoking Caterpillar. Eleanor Tomlinson ("Angus, Thongs And Perfect Snogging") will play a complete new character Fiona Chataway, a spiteful peer of Alice.

The trio join the already star-studded cast which includes Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Michael Sheen and Matt Lucas. Danny Elfman recently confirmed that he'll be scoring the project with his old partner Burton with whom he's worked on a dozen projects over the past twenty-three years.

The film, which uses a combination of live action and performance-capture technology, is scheduled for release in 2010.

This is going to be one hell of a movie. I love his reinterpretations. And this has some of my favorite actors (Depp, Bonham Carter, Rickman).

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is, by its very nature, not a story that demands a specific vision or tone to it, which goes a long way to explaining why there have been a number of different takes on it over the years, several of them achieving some level of success in very different ways. Because, really, you do this story however you want to do this story, as long as you're having fun. And this? This looks like it'll be fun.

This is like a wish come true for me.

I had wanted to see Burton adapt Alice's Adventures In Wonderland since as far back as Edward Scissorhands and with Christopher Lee, Alan Rickman (as the Caterpillar! Inspired!), Michael Sheen and Johnny Depp in the cast this could be my most anticipated Burton movie ever.

I think I might actually be looking forward to seeing this.
Now all we need is a faithful adaptation of Oz!

I'm not a Tim Burton fan at all, but that cast is just great. Rickman as the catepillar? Genius!

Superman Returns was a great film. DO NOT REBOOT!

Well, at least for this one, this is a completely different movie that is a sequel based off of Alice in Wonderland (but with the same title).

So...we actually don't have a modern faithful Alice in Wonderland movie.

I think movie producers would be apprehensive to making a Wizard of Oz movie that isn't a musical let alone one that is more faithful to the book.

For some reason, I've always wanted to see Bruce Campbell as the Wizard.

The casting does seem pretty on the ball. And it looks...well, it looks like a cross between Tenniel's illustrations and Burton's usual...weirdness. Which is pretty much what I expected. And that's fine. Should be fun. Probably should have bleached Anne Hathaway's eyebrows, though. That just looks a little silly.

Interesting plot notion. So he's doing this as a sequel to the original Wonderland book. Of course, that book already has a sequel. So I guess this would be the third installment, set way after Looking Glass? Or is it an alternate second installment?

I would like to see Tim Burtons take on Wonderland. How can this not be a Burton flick? Just hope its not a let down like his version of Charlie and the Chocolate factory.

I wasbored the second I heard this idea. It COULD be good but I doubt it. You say Tim Burton and Alice in Wonderland, and you can see the entire movie already before it's even out.

I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think there's anything unique happening here.

Believe it or not, I LOVE COMICS!!! and it's only hard to tell because I know that they can be and SHOULD BE better.
